HET Beginning-Trimester Report
First Period of 2003
December 1 - March 30
This report is composed of five sections:
Instrument Status
In this section we will discuss the status of each instrument and any
limitation to configurations that occurred during the period.
- LRS: We have g2 and g3 available this period.
No new HgCdZn lamps have
been found to be purchased.
- HRS: No limitations
- Instrument Commissioning: There will be some MRS IC.
- Future IC and Engineering: During this there
will MRS IC, MARS Engineering, and RHO ring
engineering.
The Rho ring engineering will bring
the telescope down for about 3 weeks in January or
February.
Expected Observing Conditions
The image quality of the HET has been improving each period. Here
is a histogram from last period.
For comparison here is the image quality for the winter period of 2002
We expect to have similar overheads to last period:

Observing Programs Status
The following links give the summary for each institution and its programs.
The resulting table will give (for each program) the total number of targets
in the queue and the number completed, and will give the CCD shutter open
hours, overhead per visit, and the TAC allocated time.
This usually will be the best
metric for judging completeness but there are times when a PI will tell
us that a target is "done" before the total number of visits is complete.

The following is a histogram of the current HET queue.
There is a lack of targets at the beginning of the night.
The large number of priority 1 targets at 7.5 and 12 hours
are UT MOS targets and none MOS g3 program: UT03-1-009,
UT03-1-010, and UT03-1-008.
